Femme Fatale - Fatal Attraction

Press Sample

The fourth and final(for now) Femme Fatale polish I bring to you is Fatal Attraction.

Femme Fatale's website describes Fatal Attraction as: "
Fatal Attraction is a deep magenta polish with scattered holographic particles in a rich burgundy. Will dry to a rough surface so will require topcoat, and around 2-3 coats for an even finish"

They aren't lying, this dries very rough. However, once you slap a top coat on it the sparkles shine very brightly. I'm guessing the glitter is just larger and extra gritty so it doesn't look very nice when it dries on it's own but when you use a top coat, BAM, sparkles!! The photos online don't do it justice. In real life it's a dark, rich raspberry with very flashy blue and red sparkles that sometimes reflect green. It's flashy enough for me, but the color is conservative enough for my mother. I could see a pretty wide range of nail polish lovers wearing this polish, it's very versatile and fun to look at throughout the day.

Femme Fatale - The Other Side Of The World

Press Sample

On to the third Femme Fatale polish! This is The Other Side Of The World.

Femme Fatale's Website describes this color as: "A sheer purple base with red tones and shimmers, highlighted by various orange, iridescent, purple and pink glitters. Swatch coming soon, please note base colour may vary slightly from product image."

I would have to disagree with this description, while the description of the glitter is accurate, the jelly base is much more of a pinky magenta than a purple. I have to say I like the photo on the website with the purple base, but this is beautiful as well. It also does warn that the base color may vary from the product image.

The product image (swatched by Nail Gun XS) is layered over OPI - Dutch Ya Just Love OPI? which I actually own in the states, I just have to get it here in Canada so I can use it under this color. I used 3 coats with no undies.

Femme Fatale - Lucent Ametrine

Press Sample

This is the second Femme Fatale polish I tried, called Lucent Ametrine.

Shoppo Eclecticco(Singapore) describes this color as - "Lucent Ametrine is a clear base glitter topper, packed full of purple glitter in various shapes/sizes and finishes. Speckled in-between are hints of wine, iridescent blue and gold.

This was a glitter bomb! I'm not sure when this color came out but I can't find on any stock list on any of the Femme Fatale stockists. Maybe it has been discontinued? If it has, it's too bad because it's a very pretty mix of glitter. It was very thick though and I added a few drops of Nail Pattern Boldness - Glitter Food (I seriously put this in all of my glitter polishes) and it made it glide on quite a bit easier.

Femme Fatale - Wolfsbane

Press Sample

Yesterday, I got 4 Femme Fatale beauties in my nail mail from the far away land of Australia (oooo)! This is my first time trying Femme Fatale polishes but I have had my eye on them for quite a while. Navy Blue & Red usually aren't my thing but I have to say I love this polish. My favorite part is the blue crescents. :)

Femme Fatale's website describes this color as "A deep purple base filled with navy hexes and shreds, flecks of periwinkle and soft blue cresents, and highlighted by a sparse scattering and flashes of red.

I didn't really notice the base being a dark purple, the navy hexes might have thrown me off so I used it over OPI - Yoga-Ta Get This Blue. I noticed that it was a jelly base so I assumed I would have to use a base color but after putting it on I'm pretty sure you could build it up enough on it's own.
The formula was great, I also used a coat of Nail Pattern Boldness - Glitter Food under a coat of Seche Vite to flatten it out and get the SUPER SHINE effect.

I look forward to trying more indie Aussie brands (and more Femme Fatale) in the future because I think they really have this glitter in a jelly base thing nailed.

Mint Manis For Talia: NerdLacquer - All Of TIme And Space

On July 16th, 2013 the online beauty community lost one of it's greatest gurus. At just 13 years old, Talia Joy Catellano lost her 6 year battle with two types of cancer. Talia was best know as TaliaJoy18 and will be greatly missed.

The blogging community has created a memorial in the form of mint manicures to be worn on Friday, July 19th. Mint manicures were chosen because the last manicure that Talia posted was a mint mani.
Thanks to Nicole at Nail Polish Wars for putting this together. It was a great idea!

You can see many of Talia's tutorials on YouTube as TaliaJoy18.

RIP Talia!

Enchanted Polish - Time To Pretend

Today I have my other Enchanted Polish from the Time To Pretend collection! Yay. This one is named, Time To Pretend. The picture on Llarowe's site wasn't entirely accurate for this polish either but it was much closer to the actual color than it was for Kids! It's just darker and more blue. This polish really is blurple. In the bottle it looks purple for sure but when it's on the nail you really cannot tell whether it is purple or blue.  The color shift is a bit more subtle than it was in Kids but it's still definitely there. This color is also more holographic than Kids which is a big plus for me since I would rather have more holo than more duochrome. I am quite happy with this polish and I would love to own the rest of the collection. :)

Instagram for your PC with BlueStacks

This is for all of those bloggers out there without a fancy phone!

So far, Instagram has no plans of making itself compatible for uploading pics from your PC. Instagram is a "mobile first" company, while they allow you to view photos and follow users from the web, they do not allow you to upload pics from your PC. They want to keep Instagram about "photography"via mobile devices so it doesn't get overloaded with random pics from the internet (a la tumblr).

Instagram has very quickly grown into a very popular tool to be used by bloggers, however, their "mobile first" policy leaves out those without data plans or smart phones. I'm not a regular phone user, I actually really dislike using the phone. That being said, I'm certainly not going to pay a fortune for a data plan and a $600(or something, I have not researched this number) phone that takes decent photos with access to the Android/Iphone app stores. Well, lucky for people like me, there is a workaround!

The workaround is a pain in the butt, but it sure beats spending all of that money. If you prefer to use your PC, there are a couple Android emulators out there to choose from. They're very early in development, have a lot of bugs and run pretty slowly, especially if you have an older PC. I tried out Google's android emulator for developers but I had trouble making it work.

The program I ended up using is called BlueStacks, it's free and it's in Beta. I've had a problem with it once where it was stuck eternally on the "Loading..." screen but a quick uninstall and a fresh download and re-imstall solved that issue for me.

You can download BlueStacks at http://www.bluestacks.com/, there is also a Mac friendly version available. Once you have it downloaded and opened, it will look something like this...

Yours will not have Instagram yet, you need to order that from the Android or Amazon app store. Click "App Search" and type in Instagram. You will either need to log into a google or amazon account (it's free but you still need to login). Note that this is an android emulator so you can play games on it too. :)

Once you have it installed, you can create an account and login! It will automatically hook up to your webcam, so if you want to take pics on your webcam, you can do that as well.

To upload saved photos from your PC, just open a file folder and drag the photo you want from the file folder and onto the BlueStacks window and a window will pop up asking you where you want to send the photo. Click Instagram and it will work just like Instagram on your phone (or for people like me, on other people's phones) Get your hashtags ready and start instagramming (is that how you say it? >.<)!

Note: I have found that in order to add another picture in the same session, you will have to go back to the Blue Stacks main screen and open Instagram a second time to get the "Share" window to start popping back up.

I hope this helps out more bloggers than just me! I was feeling pretty left out with all of the Instagram giveaways and I felt like I was missing out on a lot of exposure for my blog. It is a pain in the butt, but it's free and I'm happy with it.

If you get stuck anywhere along the line, don't hesitate to consult YouTube!

Enchanted Polish - Kids

I was finally able to score some Enchanted Polishes from Llarowe in the last restock! I tried to snag just one from the previous restock only to get cart jacked. Argghh! Anyway, I was able to snag two in two separate orders (paying Canadian shipping on both :/) and I'm super excited to share them! I love being in Canada with my fiance (it's a great country) but I really don't think I will ever get used to Canadian shipping & Customs fees. The sales tax is a bit alarming but it's not so bad. In Ontario, sales tax is 13% wheras in Minnesota (where I am from) it is 6.5%.  I have only been charged a Customs fee once (fingers crossed) on an Asos order, I spent $86 and ended up with a SURPRIZE customs fee of $40. Yikes! Thankfully my fiance had  $40 on him because I did not see that coming, hehe.
Today I have Kids, this is the one I was most excited about, in the picture on both Llarowe's & Enchanted Polish's website it looked like a dusty turquoise/green super linear holo and it was so gorgeous! Unfortunately, I have yet to find a lighting that makes it look like the color in the picture. I was pretty bummed it didn't look like it did in the picture but it's still a beautiful color that I am very happy to own! In reality, this is a blue/purple/pink multi-chrome polish with a medium amount of holo-goodness that is mostly linear but somewhat scattered!
